Bordetella

The Bordetella vaccine can be given to both puppies and adult dogs. It is recommended for dogs who interact with other dogs in boarding or social settings. The Bordetella vaccine helps prevent kennel cough. Kennel cough easily spreads from one dog to another through shared toys and coughing, as it is highly contagious.

If your dog is going to go to dog parks, doggy day care for play or boarding, or frequent play dates with other dogs, we recommend you get this vaccine every six months if your dog is frequently in a social setting such as daycare or dog parks. Kennel cough is most likely to be picked up in areas where lots of dogs congregate, however you dog can contract it from your own backyard as well. Your dog can begin receiving Bordatella vaccines as early as 8 weeks of age.

Vaccine Reactions

A small percentage of dogs and cats (like humans) can have an allergic reaction to vaccines. At the time of your appointment, you will be reminded about the signs that you need to watch for in case of a reaction.
