Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)

The FeLV vaccine protects cats against a virus that only cats get, the Feline Leukemia Virus. FeLV weakens the immune system and leads to infections. It’s transmitted through bodily fluids, such as spit when cats share food or bite one another.

There is no treatment for Feline Leukemia Virus and the disease is ultimately fatal. For cats that spend time both indoors and outdoors we recommend the FeLV vaccine.

Before you vaccinate your cat against Feline Leukemia Virus, we recommend that your cat be combo tested. The FeLV vaccine cannot cure Feline Leukemia so you’ll want to know if your cat has the disease before getting the vaccine.

Vaccine Reactions

A small percentage of dogs and cats (like humans) can have an allergic reaction to vaccines. At the time of your appointment, you will be reminded about the signs that you need to watch for in case of a reaction.
