Distemper
The DHAPP or DA2PP vaccine, known as the distemper vaccine, protects against five contagious viral infections in dogs. Most people think this vaccine only protects against the deadly Parvovirus, but it also prevents Distemper virus, Hepatitis, Adenovirus, and Parainfluenza from developing in your dog.
If you have a puppy, they will receive a series of this vaccine up to 14-16 weeks of age that will protect them for one year. After that one year, they will receive a 3-year vaccine. If you have an adult dog that has never been vaccinated, they will receive a series of two vaccines 3-4 weeks apart that will last for one year and then a three year vaccine after that.
Why should you vaccinate your dog with the Distemper vaccine?
The five viruses that the vaccine protects against are highly contagious and potentially fatal. In addition to protecting your own dog, by vaccinating your pet it prevents the spread of disease in general, which keeps our pet population healthier.
Vaccine Reactions
A small percentage of dogs and cats (like humans) can have an allergic reaction to vaccines. At the time of your appointment, you will be reminded about the signs that you need to watch for in case of a reaction.
