Let Us Help Answer Your Questions
-
Can I purchase Tri-Heart Plus at my local pet store?
No, Tri-Heart (and any other heartworm preventative pill) requires a prescription from a veterinarian. You can pick up Tri-Heart at the clinic after your dog tests negative for a heartworm test.
If your dog is under six months of age they do not need a heartworm test as they are not old enough for the heartworms to mature. Beginning prevention before 6 months of age will prevent your pet from developing heartworms.

What are the active ingredients in Tri-Heart Plus for dogs?
Tri-Heart Plus has two active ingredients, Ivermectin and Pyrantel.
Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum, anti-parasitic agent that prevents heartworm disease and cures parasitic infections to help to improve your dog's quality of life. Ivermectin paralyzes the parasite through the insect's nervous system and eventually kills the parasite.
The second active ingredient, Pyrantel, is an anti-worm drug (i.e., anthelmintic) that is used to treat roundworm, hookworm, pinworm, and other worm infections. It also works by paralyzing the parasite so that the body can remove them naturally in the stool.
